While the science about the benefits of fluoride remains in debate, four simple reasons exist for elimination of the chemical from public water supplies.

- We put fluoride in water, intending to build enamel in children’s teeth. But fluoride is a program of mass medication with no dosage control among the recipients. Drinking more glasses of water to stay healthy brings a heavier dosage.
- Controversy over fluoride has persisted since it was first put into water supplies in 1945. As opposition has focused on fluoride health side effects vs. the benefits to the human tooth, our board should halt fluoride injections as an exercise of caution.
- Fluoridation is voluntary, though the water board has no indemnity from suppliers as to the grade and origins of fluoride.
- Ending fluoride treatments respects members of the general public who are our customers, leaving decisions about youth dental care to responsible parents.
On July 19 the board of the North West Utility District will vote on a bid to halt injecting fluoride into the water of 7,000 customers. The board is requesting public comment at this email portal.

I live here in Soddy-Daisy and I vote no to keep adding fluoride. I highly believe that it should be stopped at once. I believe that we as parents of Soddy-Daisy should help our children by making sure our children brush there teeth mouthwash, which has fluoride in it.
I don’t want this in our drinking water an I know over a hundred people who live here in Soddy-Daisy that feel the same. My uncle Darrell works for [North West Utility District] and is a hard worker.
They all work together to make sure our drinking water is safe and are just a call away when needed. I highly believe in not putting this in our drinking water due to concern of harm.
My strong vote is no.
